General Product Safety Regulation (GPSR) Compliance

Regulation (EU) 2023/988 | Effective from 13 December 2024

At Zuri House, we believe in creating home accessories that are not only beautifully handcrafted and timeless in design, but also safe, transparent, and responsibly made. That’s why we fully comply with the General Product Safety Regulation (GPSR) – Regulation (EU) 2023/988, which replaces Directive 2001/95/EC and comes into force on 13 December 2024.

The GPSR applies to all consumer products offered on the EU market - whether sold online or in shops - and strengthens consumer protections by ensuring products are safe, traceable, and properly labelled.

What Is the General Product Safety Regulation?

The GPSR introduces comprehensive safety obligations for all economic operators - manufacturers, distributors, importers, and fulfilment service providers - including micro and small businesses like ours.

Its goals are to:

Minimise potential health and safety risks to consumers
Ensure transparent, multilingual product information and warnings
Improve traceability across the entire supply chain
Strengthen product recall processes and market monitoring

Our Commitment to Compliance

Zuri House is a small, independent studio creating high-quality, handcrafted home décor in Scandinavian-inspired style. Many of our products, such as bean bags, pouffes, cushions, and rugs, are made for family-friendly use - but we prioritise safety and responsibility at every stage.

Product Labelling & Documentation

All Zuri House products are clearly labelled and shipped with a Product Passport or supported documentation that includes:

Product name and dimensions
Materials and composition
Intended use and care instructions
Fire safety compliance (where applicable)
Safety warnings (especially relevant for items used by or around children)

Product Safety & Testing

We prioritise natural, eco-friendly materials - including recycled cotton cords - carefully selected for everyday use. For products like bean bags and pouffes, we comply with relevant fire safety standards, including:

BS 5852: Part 1: 1979 (Ignition Source 0) for outer knitted covers
Schedule 3 Fire Barrier Interliners for inner bags
Schedule 2, Part I based on BS 5852:1982 Part 2 for polystyrene filling

Important: Our items are not toys and should not be used as such. Warnings and use guidance are provided with every product.

Risk Management & Safety Warnings

Each product is assessed for safety and labelled accordingly. Where applicable, our warnings include:

Suffocation/entanglement risk for large textile items (e.g. rugs, covers)
Choking hazard for small decorative components
Proper usage and adult supervision for bean bags and pouffes
Care guidance to preserve fire-resistant properties (e.g. do not wet certain inner linings)

We provide multilingual warnings for all shipments to EU countries where needed.
